Import Calendar Data into Your Account

You can have Kordiam import event data from external sources such as a news agency on the page Calendar > Event Feeds. This page will only be displayed once a feed import is activated for your account.

These event feeds

• are refreshed multiple times a day,
• are being displayed on the Event Feeds page structured into categories such as "Politics", "Business" etc. (depending on the feed), and
• can be automatically transferred into your calendars and story lists.

This way you can quickly review a whole range of external event feeds and easily move them into your calendars or story lists.

Data sources and import formats

All event feeds are imported centrally into Kordiam. We currently can import feeds from the following sources and feeds (as of February 2014):

• STT Lehtikuva (Finnish news agency)
• Zapaday
• Locally installed event databases MSUevent, Leo-Event and Tempestiva

 In some cases we get the data in a proprietary format. However, most sources send the data in the EventsML G2 format.

Manual handling of imported events

The manual way of moving an event from the Event Feeds page to your calendar and/or your story lists is simple.

You simply click on an event's description to open it. 

It opens into the usual entry mask that you are accustomed with.

Simply add and edit data as you wish and save the event. As always the menus "Story/event belongs to" and the selection of publication platforms at the bottom determine in what calendar and story lists the event will appear (depening on your settings you may not see the "Story/event belongs to" setting).

In case the event data is updated or removed by the source from which the data is imported these changes are automatically reflected in Kordiam (e.g. a change of the event start time or in case the event is deleted).

Automatic forwarding of events into your calendar and/or story lists

The event feeds from one source are typically structured into certain categories (e.g. "Business").

You can ask Kordiam to automatically forward all events of one category to one calendar and/or to one publication platform.

This way all external Business events could automatically appear in the calendar of the Business desk and - if you want to - also as story proposals on the Business pages of your website.

You can activate this automatic forwarding by going to the feed category on the Event Feeds page. On the right you see a small settings icon.

Click on it and select "Automatic assignment".

A menu opens. Select the group into whose calendar you want to forward the events and/or select the publication platform.

ATTENTION: Once you have saved your entries all events of that feed category will be moved according to the new settings. Once they have been forwarded they can only be edited manually. If you make changes to the automatic forwarding these changes will be applied to new events only.
