Story templates let you predefine fields, tasks, and platforms so your team can create new stories faster and more consistently. They're ideal for recurring story types — a daily briefing, a product review, a breaking news format.
What you can do
- Predefine field values, mandatory fields, and hidden fields for any story type
- Add tasks (status, assignee, cost, text length) and platforms (category, status, type) to a template
- Use "All groups of story creator" to automatically assign the creating user's groups — no manual maintenance needed
- Bookmark templates for quick access
- Duplicate an existing template as a starting point
- Share a permanent template URL to link from other systems
How it works
Using a template (Fast Entry)
Open the template selector via the arrow next to the + Story button and select FROM TEMPLATE. Kordiam remembers your last selection and shows it directly as the first option next time.
- Select a template from the list. The Fast Entry form opens with all predefined values filled in.
- Edit any visible field as needed. Mandatory fields are marked with a yellow star — they must be filled before saving.
- Save with Save, Save & Enter next, or Save & Edit details.
Creating a template
Open the template selector via the arrow next to the + Story button, select FROM TEMPLATE, then click + New Template in the top right corner.
- Give the template a name (max. 40 characters).
- Fill in the fields you want to predefine. For each field you can:
- Hide it — the field won't appear in Fast Entry when creating a story from this template
- Mark it as mandatory — the story can't be saved until that field is filled. ⚠️ Note: if a mandatory field is hidden, the mandatory requirement is automatically removed.
- Hide it — the field won't appear in Fast Entry when creating a story from this template
- Set the story group — this is mandatory, since every story needs a group, and defines which editorial group the story will be assigned to when created from this template. A template can't be saved without at least one story group.
To use "All groups of story creator," select that option at the top of the group list. It can be combined with specific groups. - Separately, set "Share template with groups" — this is a different setting and controls who can see and use the template itself, not the story's group. Leave it at None to keep the template personal; pick one or more groups to share it (shared templates can then only be edited or deleted by admins).
- Add tasks and platforms as needed:
- Tasks — add a task, then choose which task fields (status, assignee, cost, text length) should be shown and/or mandatory.
- Platforms — add a platform and define its scheduling: pick a specific day of the week (Kordiam will schedule it for the next occurrence of that day) and optionally a fixed time.
- Click Save.
Other features
You can duplicate templates, copy their permanent link to open them directly from other systems, edit them (if they're personal or if you have admin rights), and bookmark them by clicking the star icon — bookmarked templates will then appear at the top of the list.
